PLATO is a self-paced online computer
tutorial with modules in math, reading, & writing.
-
PLATO allows students to study
or review Math and Writing Skills. Math topics include
basic math (fractions, percents, etc;) to intermediate
algebra. Writing includes grammar, punctuation and
organization of papers.

It is great for students who like
to work on their own and have busy schedules! It
is especially great for solitary learners and night
owls!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each module contains three parts:
- Tutorial – this thoroughly explains the
concepts
- Application – this allows you to practice
the information you’ve learned
- Mastery Test – 10 questions designed to
determine if you understand the concepts and information
presented
- You can use PLATO at home as long as you have
at least Windows 98, Intel Macintosh, and Internet
Explorer 7.
- There is an offline mode if you are working on
a computer with a slower internet connection (like
dial-up).
- You can use it at YCCC in the Learning Center.
- You can use it on your laptop anywhere!
SETTING UP AN ACCOUNT
- Start by seeing Angela or Laura at the Learning
Center (room B202) to get an account set up. They
will help you choose a curriculum that is customized
to your academic needs.
